I have been the Title 1 Director for the Woburn Public Schools since 2007. Prior to coming to Woburn, I was employed by the City of Chelsea for 29 years. During my tenure there, I held postions as a classroom teacher, speech therapist, reading teacher, and lead literacy specialist. I have had extensive training in the field of reading by working closely with the professors at Boston University and experts in the field of early and adolescent literacy . In 2005, I had the honor of modeling an early literacy lesson for the Laura Bush during her visit to Chelsea.
Should you have any questions- please call me or send an email. I will return your call as quickly as possible.
What is Title One?
Title One, a part of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), is the largest federally funded education program. Resources are provided to eligible school districts based on economic need. It is intended to help ensure that students in need of instruction are provided the opportunity to obtain a high-quality education in order to reach proficiency on the challenging state academic standards and assessments. Children do need to qualify in order to receive assistance.
Title One funding may be used to provide additional instructional staff, programs, and scientifically-based instructional strategies to raise student achievement. The funding must be used to supplement and be in addition to any state and locally funded programs.
